How to Fight Zombies
Overall Tips
Fighting is an essential part of project zomboid. The more you know about combat the better and more difficult areas you can access. The best way to fight zombies is to avoid them, sneaking, jogging away, or driving away will always be easier than fighting the hoard. Always try to fight zombies outside or in large open areas. Also, keep in mind it's far easier to fight 1 or 2 zombies than 50.
Melee Weapons
Melee weapons are the most common way of dealing with zombies. There are 3 main schools of thought when it comes to picking a melee weapon: reach, durability, and damage. If you want reach, which effectivly keeps you far away from potential bites, you should try and use spears. You can craft spears with planks and a knife or find them naturally in the world. If you want durability you should look for a crowbar or other construction tools. For the most damage you should look for axes (especially the wood axe) or long blades such as the machette or katana. Remember when fighting in melee combat you should make sure you have space to back up.
Ranged Weapons
The biggest advice for ranged weapons is this: DON'T USE THEM. All ranged weapons in the game make a lot of noise and usually attract zombies faster than you can kill them. Unless you're 100% sure you have enough ammo to kill all the zombies in the area do not use a ranged weapon. If you are determined on using a ranged weapon you should start with shotguns in order to level your aiming skill enough to hit with the stronger weapons.
Automobiles
Cars are one of the best ways of defeating large amounts of zombies. If you want to use cars as a weapon you should look for heavy cars with powerful engines. When running over the undead make sure your engine stays in the green or yellow as your engine breaking in the middle of a hoard is a quick way to die. If possibe, hit the undead with the side or back of your car in order to preserve the engine as long as you can.
Molitovs and Bombs
The most potenitally dangerous of the killing methods, explosives and incendiary weapons can be one of the fastest ways to kill hoards. You should only use these weapons in large, empty areas so important buildings don't burn down. I almost exclusivlely use these in large, parking lots.
